What Does the Liver Do?
The liver is one of your body’s largest and most important organs. It acts like a built-in filter,
cleaning toxins out of your blood, helping digest food, storing energy, and fighting off infections.
Liver problems occur when liver cells become damaged. Common causes include:
• Hepatitis Viruses: Viral infections like Hepatitis A, B, or C.
• Fatty Liver: Build-up of extra fat in liver cells due to diet or health conditions.
• Toxin/Alcohol Damage: Harm caused by excessive alcohol or long-term
medication use.
When the liver is continually injured, it forms scar tissue. Over time, severe scarring is called
cirrhosis, which makes it hard for the liver to work properly.
